Veneers

Veneers are a versatile and effective method of addressing many cosmetic dental issues. If you’re looking for a minimally invasive yet stunning upgrade to your smile, veneers are a great option to consider.

A veneer is a very thin shell, made of porcelain or dental composite, that attaches to the front of the teeth.

In addition to covering up any discoloration on the surface of the natural teeth, veneers can also fill in chipped or worn-down areas, and conceal minor alignment issues and gaps.

While every case and every set of veneers is different, the basic process will look something like this:

• At your evaluation, the doctor will examine your mouth, take x-rays, and talk with you about your specific cosmetic hopes for your smile.
• If you choose to proceed, the doctor will remove about half a millimeter of enamel from the front of your teeth and take a mold of the area, to make sure your new veneers will fit perfectly.
• When the veneers are ready, the doctor will cement them in place.
• Once your veneers are completed, you may need one or more follow-up appointments to make sure they’re looking, feeling, and functioning the way you want.

Veneers may be right for you if:

• Your teeth are basically healthy. You don’t need significant work done to stop decay or correct function-altering alignment issues.
• You’re hoping for a dramatic change in your smile’s appearance, beyond what standard whitening treatments can offer.
• You are comfortable with having your veneers redone every 7-15 years. Veneers are not permanent and are also not reversible, so maintaining them is a lifelong, if infrequent, commitment.
• You are open to procedures not covered by dental insurance.
